Tammy Gilley

Tammy Gilley loves fabric - the feel of it, the smell of it, what she can do with it.  Having made her first quilt for her doll’s bed when she was 7 years old, Tammy is a  fourth generation quilter.  As a young girl, days were spent with her mother and her grandmother around the dining room table, each working on their own projects and having lovely conversations.  It was Tammy’s first memory of growing into woman-ness and a sense that this was woman’s work, and that it was important, and creative, and wonderful.

Tammy Gilley Studios is the formalization of that woman’s work into a woman’s business.  After Tammy’s mother passed away, Tammy took up many of her mother’s unfinished projects and her distinct style became evident.  Where her mother’s quilts were more traditional, Tammy’s style is funky, more free-spirited, a riot of color.  As Tammy likes to say, she does few things quietly and quilting is no exception.  Her designs are a fresh take on a craft of generations.  With every quilt and now, with the addition of fun collage work, Tammy feels the women who have gone before her.
